OK, What is the toggle on gearshift for in the hybrid?

Well it's fun having such a new techie car, you discover something almost every day.

 

Talking about the Hybrid here...

 

On the left side of the gearshift knob is a thumb toggle switch. If you press it, it lights

up a display icon that shows a car on an incline. Disable the Hill Assist I thought?

Why?

 

Hmmm, what is this.... I find in the manual that it references the up/down shift for

the SelectShift Automatic (page 162). But we have a CVT. Huh, I must be missing something.

 

Haven't figured it out, yet, but I'm anxious to start using it! :worship:

 

So somebody please enlighten me (us)...

Funny, I just asked this question in another thread. Was hoping to get clarification, dealer said it is a downhill assist. Which will basically use the engine and the brakes to keep you at a set speed when going downhill. I was actually hoping it would increase automatic regen when driving like the Tesla's do, I suppose in a Hybrid that wouldn't help too much.

Grade Assist, page 174 in the manual.

 

• Provides additional grade braking with a combination of engine motoring and high-voltage battery charging to help maintain vehicle speed when descending a grade.

• As the vehicle determines the amount of engine motoring and high-voltage battery charging, you may notice the engine speed increasing and decreasing to help maintain your vehicle speed when descending a grade.

• The grade assist lamp in the instrument cluster is illuminated.

OK, I just need to trash my online copy of the Owners Manual as it is wrong, wrong wrong...

The hardcopy is the same. This

 

What's the right version, I have the 3rd printing, I want the 2nd printing somehow?

Check this Thread for where to get the FFH manual.

Sounds like you have the standard Fusion manual.

Ya know what, you're right. Somewhere online I grabbed the wrong version. The cover looks the same as the one

I have in the car, but it is different and does not say hybrid. Got the right one now I think.

 

Now I have to learn the car that I thought I was driving, all over again...geez ;-)

I love that we are anxious to try out things on our new hybrid. Ford has put so much on these that it takes quite some time to understand everything.

In my '12 Focus, the same thing you describe is something to help take the auto tranny out of park when you are parked on a steep incline. I accidently brushed it while driving and the light came on, and I freaked out wondering what I had done. Wifey dug out the manuel and checked it and told me what it was. I was afraid to touch it to put it back into the former mode!

What?? I think you better read that manual again. The button on the Focus provides overdrive cancel and grade assist. It has nothing to do with shifting out of park.
