Jacking Points - 2013 FFH

There is an older thread about this but it doesn't address my question.

 

Because of the lack of a real spare tire in the new 2013 FFH, I went to my local tire shop and ordered a rim and tire for $100. Then I picked up a jack and lug wrench from Walmart for about $30. All of this fits nicely on top of the battery pack. While I lose even more of the already limited trunk space, I don't mind since my fusion is primarily a commuter car and I would MUCH rather have a real spare than rely on fix-a-flat technology especially since I regularily drive rural out of cell coverage roads to get to work.

 

My final question on this topic is: Where do you jack up the car? I can't find anything about this in the manual. Short of calling Ford Service or my tire shop.

Ok last question. The jack I purchased does NOT have a slot in it to lift the car--it is just a large sloped inward from both sides flat head. Must I used a jack with the slot in it? Will I damage the car if I don't?

I've used this type of jack before on my old car and the flange just bent flat over time. I just wasn't sure if this would cause unncessary damage or risk injury.

It's not quite as secure as the OEM style slotted one but as long as you're careful and the car is on solid ground and basically level it should work fine.

The slotted ones actually slide on to the vertical flat plate on the frame making a secure connection, yours will self center in the 'V'.

Lug wrench has the right size socket as well (19mm or 3/4").

We gotta remember this will be rarely used (hopefully).

 

The Ford Freestar has the correct Jack too.

Can somebody confirm that there is indeed a arrow and re-enforced jacking point/plate on the 2013 FFH?

 

And then let us know if you've actually tried the jack. No reason why it shouldn't be and all this

should work, but can't help but think there is one missing piece about this car and using the

Frankenstein spare + jack + lug wrench that hasn't been considered (ie, does Ford know something

that we all don't?).

Did you see the pics that GrySql posted and I linked in the 2nd post? It shows the arrow on his FFH.
