ford fusion assembly time?

Recommended Posts

Just wondered how long it takes to assemble one of these cars. I thought I read somewhere it took 18hrs. Anybody ever asked a line worker?

It can take 18 hours when you consider frame assembly, door assembly and the like. But, when the car is put on the line it takes about 60 minutes. They make about 1,000 - 1,200 cars a day at the Mexico plant. They work two shifts, 6 days a week.

Amazing that they can get the car painted and dry in that short of time, and its hard as a rock when done. I repainted our Grand Marquis using a spray booth and oven and it still took a year before the paint finally got hard enough to withstand abrasions.

The assembly lines are impressive. I toured the Flat Rock, MI, plant where they make Mustangs and last years Mazda6. Whats ridiculous is all the different powertrains, models and trims go right down the same line, in what appears to be a random order.

I always see people giving crap about the Mexican built cars, but they have been well built cars, and the quality has been superb. If they hire 1000 more, then that's 1000 fewer crossing the border.

Yes. That will be a change. Wonder how many cars the line actually holds? I guess one could figure it out based on the lenght of the car and it taking about an hr. hmmm.
