lights involuntary on and off

A couple of my neighbors have witnessed our unattended 2010 FFH's exterior lights come on and the about a minute later, go off. No explaination. They noticed this at night. The other day, my wife noticed the same thing happening as she approached our car in a parking lot during the day. She was about 10 ft from the car and no key was involved. On for a bout a minute, then off. Has anyone experienced this problem or have ideas as to the cause? Thanks for your help.

This is the normal behavior for mine when unlocking the doors using the button on the key, but since you say no key was involved that does sound strange if someone weren't hitting the button by mistake.

We had a 2000 Grand Marquis that did that, eventually draining the battery. Turned out to happen only when the car got wet, and found it was the keypad on the door shorting out. If you have one of those, that is where I would look.

Update to my original post. I asked two different Ford Service managers what they thought was the problem. They had no idea. Later, not only did my exterior lights come on and off, but later my battery was dead one morning. I jump started and was off on a 2000 mile trip. I tryed to manually control my headlight, thinking that the photocell might be bad on my "auto lights" feature. Two days later my parking brakes locked up, many of the door and dash controls and lights went dead. I had the car hauled into the Ford dealer and they tracked the problem down to the "smart Junction box", which needed replaced at a cost of $500. I have continued on for a 1000 miles and all is well. It is hard to stay made at this car.
