Potential 2013 Fusion Hybrid buyer.... questions for folks.

Hi, new to the forum. I saw the 2013 Fusion at the Philly auto show... very nice.....couldn't get close but did look nice and everything i see online hasn't changed that opinion.

My questions are to current Ford Fusion Hybrid owners.

Thinking for 2013 to retire and interested in getting something for trips and MPG high on my list. We have a 2007 Lexus ES350 great car, and not bad MPG at 22 and 32.........however, 40+ sounds alot better. How is your overall ride experience? Comfort? Road noise etc etc. Tough to beat a Lexus for ride but, i'd give Ford a chance.

Would you recommend a Fusion hybrid?

Quaity issues/concerns?

I realize no one has the 2013 yet, but what about 2011/2012 owners MPG vs. what sticker shows (or suggested MPG).

I'm semi considering as well the Toyota Camry 2012 Hybrid or 2013 model. Quality is there, proven technology etc.

 

I'm sure alot of above can be answered by searching thru other posts/topics etc...... If anyone can share most/all i'd really appreciate it.

 

Not sure what pricing the 2013 will come in at...... hoping in neighborhood of the Camry around $27,000......

I have a 2010 FFH that now has 116k miles (will hit the 3 year mark in July), I have a long commute each day that includes about 80-90% highway driving. I also keep tabs on each fillup, and my lifetime MPG is 39.8 which I think is pretty darn good for a sticker of 41 City / 36 Highway.

 

I say the ride is good but coming from your current car you may notice a difference. Go take a test drive in a 2012 to find out and tell them that if you like it you'll be glad to take their card and contact them when you are ready to order a 2013.

I feel when you drive one you will be impressed, the ride is taunt but not jarring it is also a very quiet car especially while driving in all electric mode.

 

As for the 2013 it should have improvements in all these areas, that is yet to be seen, but on the other hand the 2013 has advertised better mpg numbers than Toyota Camry. As for resale the Toyota and Ford hybrid are about equal.

 

As far as the technology Toyota and Ford have shared patents even though the systems are very similar they say they worked independently. The CVT transmission in the Fusion is made by Aisin Seiki Co Ltd which is owned by Toyota and furnishes hybrid CVT transmissions to Ford, all this sharing from Toyota is in trade for Fords Diesel and direct injection technologies.

 

The 2013 does have better highway mpg numbers than the first generation Fusion, it will be capable of 62 mph in all electric if given the right driving condition. As for premium payback for the hybrid this boils down to the driver. My 2010 has just under 36,000 miles and is mostly used in town it has never had a tank fill up below 40.4 mpg as calculated by miles driven and gallons used not buy the computer.

 

One other note, the Ford Hybrid technology has been in use by the public since 2004 when it appeared in the Escape. Toyota beat Ford to the market by a couple years but both Toyota and Ford have proven reliable hybrid technology and a few components are shared by both.

You cannot go wrong with either.

Hello everyone!

 

I am going back and forth from the 12 to the upcoming 13 hybrid. One major factor--should I say THE deciding factor, no matter how much I love the look and the MPG of the 13, will be if the cockpit is too confining. I've seen video and picks of it and from what I could tell is that it may be a tight fit (I'm 6'1). I hope not. I'm really hoping there will be enough knee room.

 

I did test drive a 12 hybrid last night and it was VERY nice. As a matter of fact, I liked the layout of the center console better than that of what I've seen on the 13. Not to mention 0% financing with $1700 cash back. It comes down to 47 MPG vs. 0% financing vs. sexy look vs. better dash vs. comfort vs. etc. etc.

I took my 2010 on a 4000 mi road trip to Wisconsin and PA and then home to TX and got up to 43 mpg/tank. I notice mileage drop to around 38 when temp go real high (100+) or low into the 30s when the car has other tasks than mileage on its chips mind. Love my 2010 but just ordered a loaded 2013 to get ALL the new tech toys.

I sat in a 2013 Fusion in my dealer's showroom and moved the power seat all the way back, and could only touch the pedals with my toes, and so my estimate is that it has about 2-3" more legroom than my 2010 FFH (which I believe is quite similar in cabin size to the 2012)... so if in doubt, check out a 2013 in your area in person before you make your decision. You can take my word for it but I don't want to be tracked down in case you don't find the same in the legroom, so best to check it out for yourself.

Regarding the interior space, that was definitely one of the major deciding factors for me. I am 6' 2" and had spinal surgery in February so comfort and lumbar support was a big item. I find my '13 FFH very comfortable, lumbar support on the drivers seat is adequate, leg room and head rest position is comfortable as well without feeling confining. I agree with the other posts, go and sit in one on the lot and see for yourself. I have had 6 foot+ friends of mine in the back seat and they were comfortable (slim - average builds) on an hour drive over the weekend.

I own both now, the old and new are two different animals. We are loving the new one, and will feel like a downgrade going back to the 10. The new Fusion is bigger inside from what I can tell, and so far there is only one thing I found thats annoying, the cupholders in the console. With my travel mug next to me, my arm rests on it now. It doesnt fit in the door either, so I guess I need a smaller mug.

 

For years I have been trying to find the perfect car, and thought I found it with the Sport, but the cost of gas was putting us in the poor house, so reluctantly swapped it for the Hybrid. Its.....adequate, but not the same. The 2013 though, its the Sport in a Hybrid form. It may not get up and go like the Sport, nor have that nice deep growl, but it handles as well, turns are damn near flat, no body roll. It has the great Blue color, and lots of toys.

 

Love it! Currently MPG not so good, but its new, its cold, it drives different and it will eventually get up to EPA, so not concerned about it.

AC, Aren't you glad they came out with a wider pallet of colors to choose from??? I had the ice blue '10 and got plenty of sh** from friends about my "powder blue" hybrid..(curse you Jeff Dunham) and told myself if I ever got another one it would have to be outside the colors that cats can see...The Deep impact was my 1-A choice for color, and is also a brand new intro'd color like the RRM, so kudo's to Ford for opening up the color wheel!!..

 

By the by...your MPG will take the hit if the temp is below 30, just like the '10...It dropped to 18 last night and I could only get a measley 35 MPG on my morning commute...But when it's good...you never saw these #'s in your '10 FFH!! And my feet are way too big to ever be a hyper-miler. B.

LOL, I love the COLOR! Yesterday I was getting 36-38 and it was 11* in the morning. Today we got our 10 back, and that is destined to be our daily driver(as per the insurance), so getting back into that was like getting into an antiquated car. It is still a good car though, and easy to get good MPG in, today, not even trying to get good MPG got 36.6.

 

The 13 is a much larger car, after spending a few days driving it and then getting back in the 10, very noticeable. I would love to get stiffer springs and sways for the 10, especially now that I have driven the 13, and I thought the 10 was better handling than the Camry, so the Camry must have really sucked!
