2006 SEL V6 auxillary button question...

Ok so there's an auxillary button on the radio area, but where is the auxillary jack?? Isnt it supposed to look like a headphone plug?? because if there is one of those I can't find it. I know inside of the armrest compartment there is what looks like another cig lighter jack, is that the auxillary?? I ask this because I have my ipod and Im always plugging it into the "lighter" jack down in front wih an FM transmitter but the sound quality ALWAYS sucks and I can never get a good station, and the transmitter I bought costs me dang near $60. It's very frustrating to say the least and Im ready to give up trying to enjoy my ipod while I drive :rant: :cry:

I had the same question when I bought my '06. Unfortunately, Ford got a little ahead of themselves in the debut year, and although the button is there, it serves no purpose as the car has no auxillary jack or anything on the back of the deck to hook one up. I ended up installing a Sony double DIN aftermarket deck with a front Aux jack and had USB run to the glove box. You'll also need an adapter to hook up the steering wheel controls.

Those FM transmitters are easy to install but a poor solution. There are several aftermarket companies that make adapters that will let you add a direct line-in jack for your ipod.

 

PIE is one such company.

 

If you can't handle the installation yourself, any stereo shop can do it for you. See if you can return the FM transmitter and apply the $60 towards a hardwired AUX input. You'll be able to enjoy your ipod in the car.

That Aux button has been there for years. The input is there in the head unit but there's no wiring for it. As Artie pointed out you can add a PIE interface and an adapter and make your own Aux input. I did mine and it works great.
