Detail or Just Wax?

Recommended Posts

My Fusion is 14 months old. It made it through last winter with just a waxing. Is it time for real detailing, or is waxing sufficient again (or is there some in-between option)? I am on eastern Long Island, NY, so there's an abundance of salt and sand year-round. The car is always garaged when not in use. It still looks brand new. Any suggestions?

A good waxing is all you'll need. If you wax twice a year, once before winter and once after winter, your car will look great for years to come.

I used to run a detailing business...

As far as winter prep goes I'd recommend using Meguiars cleaner wax (liquid), wax and remove, then use a paste wax of your choice. Meguiars gold class is a decent, cheap option. The paste wax is going to be a bit longer lasting. After the winter, give it a good wash, use cleaner wax again, then use a good liquid wax about once every month. I'd recommend Surf City's carnauba blend...it looks GREAT on any car, has a decent life, goes on and comes off VERY easy, and even smells like cotton candy ;) You can order it online or at a dealer if theres any local to you.

Great. Thanks for the additional info.
