Black leather vs. "medium light stone" leather. What's better?

What do you think is a better selection for a leather fusion in Philadelphia: Black leather vs. "medium light stone" ??

 

Of course, the black will be hotter in the summer (but how much, really?)

The black seems like it should show the least wear and dirt.

 

I'm not loving the medium light stone, and it seems like it would show much more dirt, and just imagine if you left a newspaper on the seat: would the ink come off on the leather? (not that I read the newspaper, but that's just an example).

 

I'm having a hard time finding the white ext. with black leather interior, so I'm deciding what requirements to relax.

 

Any thoughts?

My 2009 Fusion SEL AWD has the medium light stone leather interior....my buddy drives the same car but with the black interior....he is "very" sorry that he didn't order the light stone. The black shows "every" bit of dirt, smudges etc. IMO, "medium light stone" is the way to go!

Black shows dust and light dirt much more than light stone. The only thing that shows on white or light stone is mud or really dark stuff like mulch. Next time you're close to a white vehicle look at it really close and you'll probably see that it's dirty but you don't notice unless you're up close.

 

We went from dark red and dark blue to white and silver and there is no question the lighter colors are much easier to keep looking clean even though that sounds counterintuitive.

White on black if you can find it,i had to settle for black on black,i also wanted white on black. or white on camel,2010's are going fast

Having owned many different cars with many different color interiors, my opinion is that black is the worst to keep looking good. The light browns and tans are very easy to care for, and unless you are a coal miner, they won't show any more "dirt" than any other color (besides white!). Grey is the easiest to keep good-looking, but also very boring! I have the med lt stone in my '10 SEL and really like it.

The dealer guy said that the dash on all the cars is black, and if dust is going to be visible, it will be on the dash anyway, so what's a bit more dust on the seats?

 

Since there are no real choices with the options and white exterior that I want, I did agree to go white ext/black interior.

 

Next time around, I'll have some personal experience to help me decide for next time.

Been browsing this site for many months now as my parents are purchasing a Fusion SEL V6 (which I'll get to drive occasionally). Thought I would go ahead and register so I can add my knowledge and maybe help others out.

 

I agree that black, at least on the outside of cars, does show dirt more than white. I have both a black and white car. The black car shows dirt quickly, while on the white car I don't realize how dirty it is until I wash it. This sounds really wrong, but that's the way it is. I think it is because black is already a pure dark color, so any dirt makes it lighter and noticeable. White cars come in so many shades that when dirt accumulates, it simply looks like the shade has changes so isn't as noticeable.

 

As for interior, my personal preference are colors lighter than black. One reason is simply I don't like dark interiors and want something with a little brightness. Fusions probably aren't so bad, but I have been in some cars that make me feel like I'm climbing into a dark hole. Another is that black, by nature, absorbs heat. With leather or vinyl, that could really hurt on a hot, sunny day when wearing shorts.

Plus the Fusions have a cabin air filter. So unless you have your windows open a lot and the wind blows dust in, dust won't accumulate very fast on the dash anyway. Those cabin filters make a huge difference.

I have a 2007 Fusion with Black seats...hard black seats. Uncomfortable for long trips. The total interior is black. Dirt shows up everywhere. The dash is at such an angle, the sun's reflections are blinding.

Everybody must get stoned..... Medium Light Stone! I just got a 2011 SEL with that leather interior and I am very pleased.

To each his own. I has grey cloth in my 1997 F-150 XLT, grey leather in my 1998 F-150 Lariat, black in my 2004 F-150 Lariat and black w/sienna brown leather in my 2009 F-150 Platinum. Although the grey was fairly good at hiding stuff, it was very boring. The black looks waaaay nicer, and is very easy to maintain. How dirty does the interior of your vehicle get? Mine always remains spotless, with maybe two quick dustings a year on the dash n such and a bit of leather polish. Keeping an interior clean is simplistic, mine always look like they just rolled out from the showroom brand-new and I hardly touch it, just drive it that's about it. As for tan, it gets scuffed much too easily for my tastes. Black scuff marks that just won't come off for any amount of scrubbing (someone I knew got the tan in his truck). Ugh. Black all the way. :yup:

 

Now, for exterior, that's a different story. Impossible to keep looking good unless you are rich, retired, or make a living detailing vehicles and can do yours on your break every day. Balck exterior sucks. Any dark color sucks (burgundy/blue/green). Grey is OK, but boring. Tan is amazing, always looks clean, but again not very exciting but not bad depending on the shade. Silver is just like tan, never shows anything. White is also very forgiving, not quite as easy as tan or silver. But like someone else stated, there are so many variations of white now a lot of times you won't know it's dirty until you get up close to it. My 1998 was Dark Toreador Red w/Silver Frost two-tone. The silver was always spotless, but the burgundy was a nightmare. My 2004 was Arizona Beige, and was SO easy to keep looking great - it never showed anything. My 2009 is White Sand Tri-Coat, really nice and fairly easy too.

I've noticed periodic color transfer from my denim jeans to the edges of the seats in my 2010 with the medium light stone leather. It's easy enough to clean with leather cleaner. They seem to be wearing well otherwise. The door sills in this interior color scheme on the other hand, show every scuff and speck of dirt, and are magnets for filthy slush in the winter. Drives me nuts.
