I have a 2009 SEL V6. Lately I have noticed when I back out of a parking stall and touch the brakes, there is a pop from the right front. When I go forward then touch the brakes it pops again. It wont do it again until I reverse and touch the brakes. It sounds like there is some kind of slack in the brakes but I cant see any problems. Any one else have the problem? What could it be? The brake pads are fine and nothing seems worn out. Just stumped.

2 things come to mind, though being new to Ford products, I'm not familiar with the details of the brakes. One would be the pins the calipers slide on, the other would be the bolts that hold the brakes to the 'hub' or whatever. Have the brakes been serviced recently?

no the brakes haven't been serviced. they are still the original brakes. there is still a good amount of pad left also

I had these very same symptoms earlier this year. Dealer was no help, said everything was fine (whatever). Here is what I found on my own:

 

There is a thin metal plate on the back side of the brake pad. Between these two parts is some factory applied lubricant (grease). It was gummed up to the point that it was impairing the ability of the two parts to slide freely. I cleaned off the old grease, re-lubed and reassembled. Problem solved. Strangely, it has only happened on one side. I have not looked at the other side since there is no problem there. My vehicle at the time probably had 8,000K miles with original brakes, never serviced.
