07 rear tire wear

I have a 2007 Fusion Sport, 4 cyl with the 17" tires and 80,000 miles. This thing will wear out the rear tires twice as fast as the fronts??? Alignment has been checked twice, once by Ford and once by a highly recommended shop. The first set on it was the Michelin MXZ4's, 2nd set were BF Goodrich Traction TA's and the 3rd are a Dunlop directional mud and snow. It wears the front tires beautifully- flat even wear with no chopping(very strange). The first two sets wore the rears evenly across the face but at twice the speed as the fronts. The set of Dunlops have fairly even wear but the outer half is is less than the inner on this set. I know I could extend tire life by rotating BUT this is completely backwards of the way cars should wear tires. There must be some sort of problem with the specs for this car because I find it hard to believe that two separate shops say its right on the money yet it wears tires like it does.

Unless I missed a big thing, this is the first I've heard of this issue on the Fusion, unlike other cars like the Civic, for example. So your statement makes no sense. Being an 07, if it were that big an issue, we would be reading plenty about it. Maybe the car has an accident history or something?

Bought the car with 13 miles on it. I have heard of some Focus's and MKZ's having similar issues but have not found any corrective actions as of yet for the Fusion.

Static aligment on the rack is probably fine as you indicated you had two alignments.

 

I suspect something is moving out of alignment during driving conditions.

 

Check the rear control arm bushings, rear shocks and make sure the rims are true and in balance.
