Going to buy Fusion

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I recently got sideswiped / t-boned in my Hyundai Sonata

(On a side note, Hyundai cars 07+ have a great crash rating, I know since the side airbag went off and we spun 360 and rolled 90 degrees onto the driver side. Crawled out the moon roof.)

(Couldn't afford the Fusion at the time, so I had to step down and buy the Sonata.)

(I've ALWAYS been a Ford guy. Have a completely modded out 94 Mustang GT. Love it. )

So in wanting to stick with American cars, I want to buy a Ford Fusion.

So could you guys tell me what years/models of the Fusion to STAY AWAY FROM ???

Or what problems to look for or expect???

My 07 Sonata had tons of interior problems and I will never buy Hyundai again.

I just wanna know, 4cyl or 6? What model of Fusion is the best bang for the buck? I'm buying used. 10k-12k is the price range.

The 06-09 Fusions are pretty rock-solid reliable from what I've heard. No real powertrain problems or anything like that. Buy whichever engine you wish. The 10 Fusions have had some teething problems with the Ford 6F35 transmission, but that wouldn't affect an 06-09 Fusion that didn't have that trans.

As a side note, my parents have an 03 Santa Fe and an 05 Tucson and both have been outstanding vehicles reliability-wise- no real trips to the shop outside of maintenance. I think my dad's got somewhere north of 83k on the Santa Fe now.

The Fusions are definitely very reliable, I would say go with the 6 cyl. It is a very smooth engine with nice power to it, and mpg is almost the same as the 4 banger. You can probably find one with somewhere about 30-40,000 miles in that price range.

Jazz - Yeah I've heard people are very happy with their other Hyundai's but I got mine with 30k miles and it has just been a pain. I've never owned a car with so many little problems. Glad your parents cars are good though/

FusionFF- I was thinking the same thing, going with the 6cyl. I figured the 6 speed auto tranny would help on long haul's gas mileage.

Glad to hear nothing to worry about for this model.

If you guys have any other recommendations or ideas, let me know

Oh, for fun, here is a picture of the Sonata in the ditch

No broken bones, just a messed up collar bone and shoulder. My chiropractor said that had I not been weight lifting as much as I was, I would have suffered a lot more damage.

So anyways I ended up getting a sweet black on black 07 Fusion 4 cylinder. The 6 was not impressive to me. I'll save the HP for the 2011-2012 Mustang I've got planned in 2013.

Only problem I've had with the car is the driver side door handle mechanism broke. I pulled it all apart but couldn't get the damn panel off without fear of breaking it. Gonna take it to a shop I know to get them to just pull the panel.
