Manual to Auto Lamp Mod Question

So i don't have the sensor for the auto lamp...but was trying to see if i mod it myself

 

My friend brought it up to me. He has a Charger and found that his one didn't come with the auto lamp feature...but all he had to pull off the knob and break a little plastic piece that would stop the knob at the off position. Now when he goes to to the left where the auto position would be. Now he has auto lamps.

 

Another person from another forum i go to (who also tried it on a Charger) said he found if there's a sensor, it works like a normal auto would. But he said if there's no sensor, it'd turn on when the car is turned on and turn off when the car is turned off (though i cant find any about it on Google).

 

 

So with that, i went and pulled off the knob on mines switched it to "auto" and found out that after a ~10 second delay, the light would turn on. The only problem is that the lights would turn on with the car on or off...and the lights wont turn off (even after waiting 5 minutes).

 

i was wondering how hard it would be to add my own sensor or get it to where it'll work like the non-sensor Chargers (if possible).
