opening moon roof

Recommended Posts

I have a new 2010 fusion se with moon roof. I read the manual & it says there is a one touch control with no further explaination. Now when I touch the top button it raises the rear side of the glass and when I touch the bottom button it lowers the rear side but keeps going & slides the entire glass open. Now when I touch the top button it closes the glass but instead of stopping when it is closed it keeps going & raises the back side again. My problem is how do you stop it when it is closed make & sure it is closed? If this confuses you then I am making my point as I am sure confused. jim_joh

Assuming it works like the 2006, you press once and release to open it and the same to close it (using the opposite side of the button of course). I think if you press the close button when it's already closed it tilts for ventilation. Touching the close button again should close it without opening the moonroof. Basically the close button operates the vent if the moonroof is already closed.

One touch just means you don't have to hold the button down for it to complete the operation.

My 2010 moon roof works exactly as a kirby stated above. You just need to push it quickly to open it completely and the same to close it. Pretty much the same as the "one touch" driver side window.

If you just quickly push it and it fails to stop in the closed position and continues on the other open position, you have something else going on. I imagine it is still under warranty, take it and let them have a look.

EDIT - I was typing my reply at the exact same time as your last reply above, so I posted this before I saw it. As you can see, my post time was only one minute later. Anyway, glad you figured it out.

Hi jim_joh. :D Just wanted to add a bit to the good advice you have received above: You did not fully read the Owners Manual section concerning the moonroof. The very next page gives very detailed instructions on how to properly use the moonroof controls.

Copied and pasted from the Manual:

To open the moon roof:

The moon roof is equipped with an

automatic, one-touch, express

opening, closing and venting feature.

Press and release the rear portion of

the control. To stop motion at any

time during the one-touch

operation, press the control a

second time.

To close the moon roof:

The moon roof is equipped with an automatic, one-touch, express closing

feature. Press and release the front portion of the control. To stop

motion at any time during the one-touch closing, press the control again.

Bounce-back:

When an obstacle has been detected in the moon roof opening as the

moon roof is closing, the moon roof will automatically open and stop at a

prescribed position. This is known as “bounce-back”. If the ignition is

turned off (without accessory delay being active) during bounce-back,

the moon roof will move until the bounce-back position is reached.

Bounce-back override:

To override bounce-back, press and hold the front portion of the control.

For example: Bounce-back can be used to overcome the resistance of ice

on the moon roof or seals. If during a bounce-back condition, the control

is released to the neutral position, then held in the one-touch position

within two seconds after the moon roof reaches the bounce-back

position, the moon roof will travel with no bounce-back protection.

If the control is released before the moon roof reaches fully closed or the

ignition is turned off (without accessory delay being active), the moon

roof will stop. Security override can be used if the moon roof movement

is restricted in some way, for example, if there is ice on the moon roof or

seals.

To vent:

• To tilt the moon roof into the vent position (when the glass panel is

closed), press and release the front portion of the control.

• To close the moon roof from the vent position, press and hold the rear

portion of the control until the glass panel stops moving.

The moon roof has a sliding shade that can be opened or closed when

the glass panel is shut. To close the shade, pull it toward the front of the

vehicle.

Between what others have told you above and this information directly from the Manual, hopefully you are now good to go.

Good luck. :beerchug:

Haven't read it yet but you also have the option of not opening the moon roof all the way.

Once you press the back arrow the moon roof will start to slide completely open. Just like the driver window, if you hit the button again it will stop wherever it is. I do this all the time driving home from work so the sun through the roof isn't directly in my eyes but I still want it open to get air flow in the car.

Hi Sithil. :D It is included in the Owners Manual instructions copied and pasted in an above reply (#5):

"To open the moon roof:

automatic, one-touch, express

opening, closing and venting feature.

Press and release the rear portion of

the control. To stop motion at any

time during the one-touch

And the same thing can be done during closing:

"To close the moon roof:

The moon roof is equipped with an automatic, one-touch, express closing

feature. Press and release the front portion of the control. To stop

motion at any time during the one-touch closing, press the control again."

Hope this information helps.

Good luck. :beerchug:

Don't feel dumb. I was seeing the same thing and it worried me until I figured it out.
