Keyless confirmation

Hello everyone. I have a question about the keyless entry system on the 2010 fusions. I was curious if when you unlock using the keyless remote, do the parking lamps flash for confirmation or not? I know they flash for lock confirmation (owners manual), but do they for unlocking? Or do only the interior lights come on?

Hi TropleL. :D The parking lamps do not flash when unlocking. Only when locking. The interior lights turning on is the unlock confirmation (along with the doors unlocking and letting us in)..

 

Not saying this to be a wise guy, but if they flashed when locking and unlocking, it would be more difficult to tell whether we had just locked or unlocked the car?

 

As you saw, the signal sequences are explained in the Owners Manual and there is no flashing of the parking lights mentioned for unlocking..

Interesting... On my 2010 SE, the lights flash when locking, and if you push the lock button again the horn honks to confirm. When unlocking with the remote, the headlights and parking lights turn on and stay on until the door is opened, or until lock is pressed again.

Hi danager :D . Not sure if you misunderstood what we were discussing.

 

You are correct in your description as to what will happen when a Fusio/Milan/MKZ with the "Perimeter Lighting" feature is unlocked. And that is how the feature is described in the Owners Manual.

 

However, that is not what TripleL is asking about. He is wondering whether the parking lights flash upon unlocking the doors with the remote in the same manner that they do when the doors are locked with the remote. As you described, when locked with one press of the remote you will get one flash, while two presses of the remote lock button will give also give a horn honk. And if a door, the trunk or the hood is not closed properly, the horn will honk twice.

 

My answer was directed at his specific question. The parking lights do not "flash for confirmation" when the doors are unlocked.

 

Also, I wanted him to know that essentially, all of the above information and more is located in the Owners Manual.

 

Hope that clears up any confusion.

Nope, I was quite clear as to the discussion. I was simply pointing out that they stay on as a visual confirmation. Perhaps elaborating on a point that was not mentioned. All that was mentioned aside from the parking lights was the interior lights. What I am speaking about is quite different. It also elaborates (in my opinion) how flashing during both lock and unlock could be confusing. I feel my response was directed at the "confirmation" of unlocking. I felt it was relevant as those who may not own a Fusion and may be interested in how the lights react when the car is unlocked via remote.

 

An interesting fact - almost all aftermarket keyless entry systems flash the lights for lock as well as unlock. The part that eliminates confusion is the number of flashes (one flash for lock, two for unlock or something similar).

Hi danager. Not sure how you took it, but my previous reply was not meant to be sarcastic (nor is this one). Nor was I saying there was any problem with your elaboration. It was simply meant to clear up any possible confusion.

 

At the time (now I realize otherwise) it seemed as if you may have thought the "perimeter lighting" you described was directly related to TripleL's "flashing parking light" question (as opposed to simply adding additional information to the discussion). As I stated, after your explanation, now I know otherwise. But still only an honest misinterpretation.

 

So in this case, no confusion, no harm. Having an MKZ which has the "Perimeter Lighting" and all the bells and whistles, I was quite familiar with how the system works. That was why I took the time to answer TripleL's question.

 

Anyway, I was very clear as to what TripleL and I were discussing, but thanks for the clarification concerning your elaboration.

 

As you and many others would agree, reading the Owners Manual carefully will answer all of these questions, if people took the time to do so. And that is not meant as a shot at those who ask questions. There is nothing wrong with asking questions and I am a member here to help answer the questions of others. And my philosophy is that if I don't want to take the time to answer, I simply don't answer (I tend to skip the sarcasm or other witty comments). In fact, whenever one of my replies is simply meant to add to the information/conversation already provided (as opposed to correcting an error), I will always try to say something to the effect of "Just to add to what ----stated". Or some words of the same meaning. In that way, it helps avoid the inevitable confusion which often occurs over the written word in short Internet posts.

 

So again, my reply to you meant no harm, it was only trying to be informative. Hopefully TripleL understands our information and we can move on.

Just curious on the whole confirmation lighting. I know of many vehicles that use the two flashes or one flash for locking or unlocking. I find it to be a very helpful indicator at night and imagine ford will bring it to the future as they have done on other models. Its just another useful tool and should be standardized in my opinion. I do read every owners manual from front to back on every vehicle I own as well as anyone in my family. In fact in most cases I read it before I even buy the vehicle. Now I am not affended by any responses but I know of many cases where not all information was stated in the owners manual about every little pitty thing on a vehicle. It would be impossible to do so and would require a thousand pages of text. Just curious on the confirmation.
