Fuel meter digital read out

I have owned my '07 AWD for a month now. The digital display for L/100 seems to be always around the 11.5-11.6 value. I understand it's winter and cold in Canada but does the display change its reading for others? I am averaging 8kms/L so the 11.5-11.6 is not correct.

 

Any comments?

Hi rockabilly. :D Not sure if this answers your concern or not, but here goes:

 

The MPG (L/100) readout is not an "instant readout". It gives an MPG (L/100) calculation starting form mile one until the current mile. So if you have 1,000 miles on the vehicle, it is giving a fuel mileage calculation for all 1,000 miles. Not the last mile, 10 miles etc..

 

Therefore, the more miles you drive, the less that readout will vary in a short time span. The only way to change that is to hit the "Reset" button, which will then have it start calculating from the current time onward. Even then, it will not read correctly until you drive for some time, due to the fact that it is not an "instant readout" type of fuel mileage gauge.

The instant MPG (L/100, etc) gauge frustrates me. What does each bar indicate? I'd rather have a number, not just 'lots' or 'none'...

Frustrating for me too so I don't use that display. My 1993 Grand Marquis indicates a number.

Instant mpg is not very useful. I had it on either an explorer or expedition and it was interesting for about 5 minutes and then I never used it again. Now I just reset the avg mpg for short trips which is a much better indication.

 

What would be really useful is to have 2 avg mpgs (like the trip time and odometers - A and B) so you can get either long term and by the tank or by the tank and then shorter trips.

I don't know if the 2010 has OBD2 or what. If it does, I feel inclined to plug in a spare ScanGauge and compare the "bars" to the gauge. Secondly, where is the diagnostic port?

Yes, It's OBD II and the diagnostic port is most likely directly underneath the steering wheel.

Did you ever try this? I too want to know what instant mpg range each bar represents.

 

I really wish we had the historical bar graph the hybrids have.
