2018 fusion hybrid mpg on highway

Just wondering what other people are gettimg for mpg on highway,I currently drive around 70 mph and not getting what I thought I would get

You won't get the rated MPG if you do a lot of driving on highways at that speed, period. The car is most efficient at speeds somewhat lower than that. If the speed limit on your road is 70, well, you get what you get and you'll just have to live with it. If it's 55, slow down. ;)

It's difficult to know just what the mpg is at 70 mph (or any other speed) because a trip that's long enough to be meaningful in mpg terms usually has parts of it at other (slower) speeds. For me, I'd estimate that at 70 mph I get 41-42 displayed mpg (actual would be about 2 mpg less). On a recent 1,150 mile round trip, including 70 and 75 mph driving as well as slower driving, I got 44.4 mpg displayed.

WOW! I have a 2018 with less than 7,000 miles and commute 50 miles each way with 40 miles on a 70 mph limited access highway and the remainder on 50 mph or lower city streets. I have yet to get 40 mpg displayed for any tank. I'm in the 37-39 mpg range at best.

What is the temperature? Has it been raining?

Had the car since October. Temps less than 50 F make it worse. Rain doesn't seem to matter too much.

There is an optimal temp range where the battery (charge and discharge) seems to work best. I think 45-50 is the low end. Where I'm at I can depend on the ICE kicking in more often when the battery graphic is 50% or more even.

 

As for advertised MPG, again ... that is a guide and driving conditions and driver habits can/will result in different numbers. BUT that being said, I had a '15 FFH Titanium and could easily maintain 40+ tanks (warm weather!!) and hit 50+ once or twice. The '17 struggles to hit 40 on tanks, so I think changes were made to the ICE usage or something that has altered my driving experience. Same basic routes/speeds, etc - including trips to FL.

 

A lot of high speed miles (over 55) and the drag will have a large detrimental effect on mileage. The runs I make (except FL) vary speeds and it does a lot better.

In my experience, rain is a SIGNIFICANT factor that reduces efficiency.

We spent the month of February in Florida. Left icy cold Michigan during the polar vortex (morning we left it was 13 below....got home and the temp was 18). Total miles driven = 2250....1850 miles getting there and back...mostly Interstate @posted speed limits (55-70 mph)...some state and county highways in Alabama going thru some small towns 25-55 mph) and about 400 miles locally (temps generally in the 60s) along the gulf coast in FL...total trip actual (total miles/ total gallons) = 42.0 MPG.

What are you getting and what did you think you would get?

Your 42 is about what my receipt MPG is when I go to FL. In my case it is easily >95% highway speed (up to 75). Interstates all the way unless construction or something forces me to alternate routes.

In my case, I couldn't get over 39 unless I switched on "ECO" and now it always does 40+. I like to say buy 2 gas miles, get the 3rd free (EV). I average 28-33% gain.

I did testing back in 2012 Dec. to Jan. 2013 and I have it graphed with temp. vs MPG on the HWY with Grill Covers on and off. As you can see temps can make a big difference in MPG's.
