Prospective FFH buyer

We are looking at purchasing a 2011 - 2012 FFH, anticipating that it will get good fuel economy around town. Our concern has to do with longer trips - we routinely make a couple of trips a year that are 12-13 hours of continuous freeway driving each way, and others that are 5-6 hours of freeway driving. I am looking for the forum's input on the suitability of the FFH for these trips, and for any concerns that there might be.

2010 FFH I get honestly 34-35 mpg on highway 70-75 mph

At 70 mph and 90º F. it will get 39 mpg. Increasing speed costs 6 mpg per 10 mph increase. Decreasing temperature costs 2 mpg per 10º F. Headwinds cost 3 mpg per 10 mph. It's a very comfortable well-handling expressway car with an enormous fuel tank range of over 600 miles.

I disagree with an expressway tank range of over 600 miles. Under ideal conditions and draining the gas tank down to fumes you might go over 600 miles on a tank but most drivers would be uncomfortable doing that. By your own numbers (39 MPG at 70 MPH) would require 15.4 gallons to go 600 miles. To go over 600 miles as you stated will require more than 15.4 gallons.

 

The FFH owner's manual states that the fuel tank capacity is 13.5 gallons but there has been a lot of discussion and debate about that on this forum.

I do 90% highway driving (70-75 mph) and I've never gotten over 600 miles on a tank and that was with LRR tires that I've moved away from. I'm lucky if I can get 530 miles from a tank now.

Ah, that makes more sense. I do wish the tank was a little bigger on my '14. With my commute I'm filling up every 2.5 days. Of course, bigger tank holds more fuel which weighs more and negatively impacts mpg.

My apologies. I assumed we were talking about a gen 2 FFH. My mistake.

I would set cruise at 65 mph in mines and get 40 mpg.
