2013 FFH SE trim with 111,000 miles

Hey all,

As the title says I just bought a 2013 from my local Ford dealership and although they did the inspection, service, and ensured that all recalls have been completeted I was wondering what kind of maintenance and or concerns you would address that maybe the dealership might not have done. I will be driving this thing approximatly 80 miles a day 5 days a week so economy and reliability are my number one concerns.

 

when I test drove it I did not notice anything unusual.

I am very anal when it comes to servicing my cars and my daughter has a 2015. I change the oil with full synthetic every 5K miles and rotate the tires. Every 30K I change the brake fluid. I change the cabin and engine air filters every 15K or every year as she drives about 15K. Nothing fancy...just smart maintenance. Follow the maintenance schedule in your owners manual and you'll be fine. Do NOT let them talk you into anything more than what's outlined in your manual unless you have money to burn.

Ohh I am a firm believer in following the book, afterall the engineers who designed the thing also told you how to maintain it LOL. However it has been a long time since I have bought a used vehicle and was just wondering if through experience there was anything I should address right off the bat.

If you're a first-timer in the FFH, I suggest sitting in the car (running) with the manual and looking through each and every screen to see what's there and work every control/switch/touch button. While doing that, figure out what ones you would want as the daily screens. On the second pass through stuff, set the screens you picked.

 

I had a '15 before the current one and I did just that. A couple hours but it was worth it. As for servicing, I follow the owners manual as well. Any shops who do your oil changes (including dealers) will probably put a 5000 mile interval on the little window sticker. I ignore it and go the 10000 recommended. Oil changes are definitely up to you, however. Filters and stuff also on recommended cycles.

thanks, I am actually enjoying the car a lot more than I anticipated. I mean I knew that I would get good mileage and that I would have to make adjustments to how I drive, but I have really missed having a quiet comfortable sedan to ridae around in. For the last All my life it seems that its been a sportscar (my 97 Cobra) or a truck or an SUV. This sedan is quiet comfortable and a lot of fun to drive.

I have 133,000+ and drive 162 miles 4 days per week (81 each way mostly interstate). I put in K&N filter and it upped the mileage 1-2 mpg but add a little extra kick when needed. 10,000 mile oil changes and 5,000 tire rotations is about all you need. FYI replacing headlights is a real pain. Enjoy, I have!

Did you do plugs at 100K like the book says?

I am thinking about pulling the plugs from the ICE and give them a looksy. If they were replaced 11k miles ago they should look brand new

Does anyone know the gapping for new plugs?

I just turned 150K miles and have not touched the plugs yet. Engine is still running well. Also have not flushed the coolant either. Still deciding whether to replace the transmission (looking like l will replace with a lightly used transmission) before I do any additional work to the car.
