I guess they think that transmission splash lube is adequate when on battery power.

 

The energi has a separate transmission pump that works all the time because of its extended range on battery power.

 

There are some posts here a few years ago about coasting down long mountain grades on battery power, transmission will not get pressure lubed and maybe a good idea getting the engine running periodically.

 

I also believe the trans fluid interval is too long. I change mine every 2 years. It only takes about 4 quarts, not a big expense.
