rpdalton Report post Posted March 17, 2018 Is there a way to bypass the function that turns the gas engine on and off? If for example I wanted to look at fuel trims over a 5-10 minute time with my scan tool or wanted to listen to valve train or other noise with a mechanics stethoscope? lolder Report post Posted March 17, 2018 Push down about 1/3 on the go pedal and the ICE will run as long as you hold it down. It won't run to maximum RPM, only maybe about 2000.

Vlad Soare Report post Posted March 19, 2018 Mine always turns on the engine when I use the demist button on the climate control (not the MAX demist, but just the regular demist, just to direct the air towards the windscreen).Or you can put the gear selector in L instead of D. 1 ptjones reacted to this

newfordowner83 Report post Posted July 27, 2018 For those who are interested... There is an engine running diagnostic mode that commands the engine on and the engine will not shut off until you shut the vehicle off. The procedure is simple: Start with the ignition off 1. Apply the parking brake2. Keep gear shift in park position3. Turn the ignition to the ON position with engine OFF4. Within 5 seconds of ignition on, fully apply the accelerator pedal and hold for ten seconds5. Within 5 seconds release the accelerator pedal and shift the transmission to drive (remember the engine should be off)6. Hold the accelerator pedal fully applied for 10 seconds7. Release the accelerator pedal and shift transmission to park8. Start engine If the above were followed properly the powertrain malfunction indicator wrench will flash once per second and the system will resume normal operation if the gear selector is taken out of park or ignition off. mikhail Report post Posted November 13, 2023 Hello. So you know how to increase RPM in service mode? It is still limited to ~2000. I want to find the source of vibration, which codes around on the middle of engine power while driving. Thanks!

You can't get more than 2k rpm, but you can try to gently release the throttle somewhat. I believe the engine can run at a lower rpm like 1500 or so, when pressing the pedal about 25% in. Doesn't work on a vehicle with the rotary dial gear selector. It will prevent you from switching to drive gear when the engine isn't on.
