One gripe I have is the camera.  The position it is in gets all the rain and slush and snow shmutz all over it and I need to keep wiping it off to use it!

My idea:  Borrowing from BMW - place the camera behind the trunk logo.  Oh hell, it ain't borrowing ... it's a blatant ripoff of a good idea!  Have a spirng-loaded hinge on the top of the logo.  When in reverse, the camera pushes out, flipping the logo up.  When not needed, the camera is safely tucked inside the trunk. The spring on the logo gets it back in place.

Advantage(s):

  • Camera is protected from inclement weather.
  • Current trunk setup already has the camera harness and stuff in there, so it's a reposition of already existing parts.
  • With a more centered camera, the guidelines also should allow for more centered parking when backing in.  Right now, it's just a bit off-center because of the position of camera.

Disadvantage(s):

  • With the added spring on the logo, it is one more little thing to fail.
  • if the logo does get damaged, the camera is possibly more likely to get damaged.

That's what I would most like to see changed.  If not in this manner, then some way to cut down on the collection of crud on it.

Here's another one ...

With all the tech in our cars, why can't the clock get set automatically when Daylight Savings goes on or off.  The way I see it is this:  In the Settings ==> Clock, add one toggle - Auto Daylight Savings?  If on, then automatic change of time else no change - or manual change.  There are some areas that do not alter their clocks, so that would be a needed option.

I have an alarm clock that does it automatically and it's over 6 years old.  How come my 1 year old car can't do it?

I had a 2013 SE and now a 2017 Platinum, and what has still not been added is an auto-locking system. I had cars in the 90's that locked automatically after about 30 seconds if you didn't lock it yourself. And with the SecuriCode keypad, it's not like you are going to get locked out.

And my long-term gripe is the cut-rate stalk antenna that Ford has chosen to put on the Fusion, even the upper level models. I replaced mine with a shark fin, and it makes a huge difference in how the car looks. When I see shark fins on entry level models on other brands, it really makes me wonder what Ford was thinking!

I would like to get some of the trunk space back that is consumed by the battery. I was recently reading about a hybrid (can't remember which one) that has the battery underneath the rear seat.

I would really hate that.  With a nice touch sensor right on the door, it's so easy to lock your car. Other companies like GM that had systems like that have stopped using them because there were too many customer complaints.  Too much risk of bad situations, especially in situations where somebody gets out then walks around to try to get their kids out of the car.

Self-lock ability: I had a Fiesta do that at a service station.  I'd taken the key out and tossed it on the seat.  Luckily I had left the windows cracked a bit and with some judicious juggling with a coathanger, got the keys thru the window and unlocked the car.  As Waldo points out, there is a lock/unlock ability on the touch handles of the doors.  I'd stay with that.

Antenna:  Absolutely agree on this and I'm gonna get me a shark-fin as soon as things warm up enough that I don't freeze my fingers off installing it.

Trunk space: It would be nice to have more trunk than a Fiesta ... for sure.  My concern with under-seat mount is how cool would that battery pack be?  As it stands now, under the floor piece there are 2 fans to assist in cooling and main ventilation is via the package shelf as well as around the seat ... would that also be as efficient?

Hidden camera: I was talking with a friend (and serious Ford fanatic) about this and he stated Lincoln uses the hidden camera idea already.  If that's so, what's the matter with the Ford brand?

I had a local detailer/accessory installer do the job for $20.

Like most features like this one, you would have the option to turn it off if you don't like it.

With the included GPS functionality, it should be automatic.  Ford chose not to use the GPS clock in the Sync implementations - even when the car is equipped with the nav module..

When (and perhaps if) Ford does a FMC, I'd love to see the following:

  • Do a better job of packaging the traction battery, particularly the Energi variant.  Both the new Camry and the new Accord have battery packaged so it doesn't compromise cargo room.
  • Find a way to package a higher hip point / larger door opening.  Many of us are not as flexible as we used to be - swoopy lines are nice to look at, but they may be one of the bigger reasons for the 'crossover explosion'.
  • I'd love to see a version of the Mondeo Estate - maybe I'm the only one, but it does look nice, while keeping the attractive proportions.
  • A bit more power / responsiveness, ideally without compromising the FE would be nice.  Also a way to improve highway-speed FE.
  • Make some routine services easier.  If Toyota can do a no-tool cabin air filter change, why does the Fusion require multiple small, hard to reach screws and major contortion?  Why does an oil change require removing the belly pan?  Even for folks that have that done, the extra effort turns into money.

Things I DON"T want:

  • Forget the built-in WI-FI, particularly one wired to a single carrier.  Big Red is a big NO due to their spendy prices and crappy customer service!
  • Don't force me to pay for a satellite receiver I won't use.  $25+/month isn't going to happen - particularly in combination with above.

I second longer door and better opening for entry and exit, and wtf with the cabin air filter that is as bad as changing the oil.

Would really like a 2 door convertible while your at it.

Satellite is $7/month if you call and threaten to quit. Been doing it for years. Although sound quality is not as good as HD FM or a.CD, I love satellite on my long commute.

Sync 3 does use the GPS clock and the time zone you're currently in. It doesn't, however, take daylight saving time into account, probably because there's no universally accepted standard for that (some countries don't use it, and those that do use it don't switch on exactly the same day).

Unfortunately that is all a 'forbidden fruit' for those of us with pre-'17 versions.  As to inconsistency - that's part of what a maps database ought to contain.  If the system knows your location and POI near it, it ought to know the time zone rules.

That said, in the scheme of feature gaps and annoyances, that one is pretty low on the list.

Why oh why doesn't my 2017 FFH have an option to beep assertively if I attempt to change lanes with a car in the blind spot?

Of course I know about the light in the mirror, but a beep (like other cars have) is such an easy thing to add.

It confounds me that this car, equipped with all this tech (I have it all) cannot make an audible sound in that situation.

I am a little color blind and have some issue with light contrast -- the mirror light warning is inadequate IMHO

It's not because it can't, it's because it's been chosen not to.

I'm so happy it doesn't have the beep, that would make me crazy.  There's an interchange I go through every day where the right lane goes off to the eastbound direction and the second to right lane splits and then goes west.  Since I go west, I use the second to right lane, put on my turn signal but don't change to the right lane, just take the right side of the split.  If there's a car in the right lane, that beep would go off every time even though I'm not attempting to merge into that lane.

However I'm pretty sure the system is capable, there might be a way to configure the beep on with a Forscan tool.

If it beeped every time it lights up, I would go insane. I can't even begin to describe how much I'd hate it. But of course I wouldn't mind if they also offered an easy way to disable it permanently.
