Yesterday I noticed a Fusion (don't know if it was an FFH) that was parked in a way that I was facing the rear of the car. The reason I noticed it was because of the ugly (to me) horizontal chrome strip across the back. The chrome strip got my attention in a very bad way, spoiling the simple lines of this otherwise-beautiful car. I now see that chrome strip on the Fusion on Ford's website. Is this new for the 2018 model? It's as if they told some designer "change something to make it different from last year's model" so they did that. Do others think it's as bad as I do? The photo is from Ford's website. The car I saw was Ruby Red so the chrome strip was more evident.

I think that chrome strip was new in 2017. I don't find it appealing either.

Strip was new in '17.  I'd love to black it out (like I did with the grille bars) and perhaps downplay the ugliness of it.  But Winter is here and I have to wait until April or so now.

I noticed it yesterday on a car in a parking lot. I don't think it looks bad... unnecessary but not a bad thing in my opinion. You know car companies, they need to make sure people can distinguish the new from the old, they need something to sell. I am actually surprised they left this version of the Fusion mostly unchanged since introducing it in 2013. I think that is a testament to a really great initial design.

I didn't like it when I first saw it, but it has grown on me. Especially because I replaced my 2013 with a 2017! Since then, I've notice that Jaguar is doing it, so is VW on the latest Passat, and BMW is doing it on the latest 7 series. Now that I'm used to it, I think it give balance to the rear view of the car, plus, at least on the premium models, it lets the taillights do a 3/4 circle instead of a full circle. Looks really nice when taillights are on.
