Sorry to say that I traded my 14 FFH in today. I put 47010 miles on it and lifetime average ended up at 44.3. The only problems I had were firmware related, once the firmware was loaded (and stayed loaded) it has been totally uneventful.

 

No brakes, no flats, no engine issue, nothing.

 

Traded it for a KIA Niro hybrid. On the ride to the dealer this morning, I got 43.5 mpg and on the way home in the Miro, I got 44.5!

 

Well see how it goes, nothing I can't sell if it goes bad.

 

In case anyone is interested, I got $12000 in trade-in. Middle of the KBB value.

How did you get by the driving experience, very sluggish and unresponsive off the line plus minimal EV power. Did you look at the CMAX, it's a little bigger and appeared to be nicer all the way around for about the same cost. I drove five of them to see the differences. I found none of those issues. No better or worse than the Fusion. I got the same MPG on the same ride, so how would minimal EV matter?

 

As to CMax, if I wanted a Prius, I would just get a Prius.

Are you trying to tell me you don't notice a difference driving between the FFH and NIRO? Even CR said CMAX had a Sportier performance than NIRO. :shift: :) CMAX/FFH are designed to be driven in EV most of the time so if you aren't doing that your gas mileage suffers, the NIRO/Prius aren't.

As to CMax, if I wanted a Prius, I would just get a Prius. You obviously haven't driven a CMAX Hybrid or you wouldn't have said that, CMAX is way better than Prius and NIRO too. You didn't say what Model you got.

This post is obviously for anyone thinking about replacing their FFH with a hatchback, I've tested several different one's and the CMAX is the best one out there. IMO

In your opinion. I needed something that I could drive 60 miles a day on the highway and drive 1 mile on a sand road to get to my hunting/shooting property. The CMax, while SUV looking actually has 1/2" less ground clearance than my FFH. And sorry, but it is a copy of a Prius. Set them next to each other and ask the general populace which one is which and you would be surprised. Just don't like it. Nothing about it is what I want.

Except that I couldn't drive it on the 1 mile sand road to my property. Had a full sized van for that. Van died and now I had to make the big choice.

This is interesting, if you had looked at Manufactures specs FFH ground clearance 6", NIRO's 6.3" from their brochure. You would have been better off getting a Real Crossover Escape with 7.8" of ground clearance and more room too. :)

Had 2 Escapes,01 and 03. They are nice, but dont get 44 MPG's

My point was you didn't gain much clearance with NIRO. ;( I guess it wasn't that important.

The real difference is in the front end overhang. With a short vehicle, there is much less overhang, giving a better approach angle. Heck, my buddy with a 16 Vette hit less curbs and parking lot entrances than the FFH did.

It would seem to me that KIA miss represented as crossover when it doesn't have the ground clearance of crossover. ;(

And yet almost all CMAX Owners LOVE their cars even if they didn't get as good MPG's as first stated. BTW I believe FORD has sold more CMAX's since they came out in sept. 2012 (130K units) than FFH/FFP, that's alot cars. They liked it better than any other Hybrid/Plugin on the market. Apparently alot of owners liked the looks of CMAX along with performance and utility. :)

Good luck with that dual electric clutch six-speed transmission. You'll need it. It's an engineering kludge designed to avoid the Toyota/Ford eCVT patents.

Had a CMAX for one day of commuting (about 77 miles each way) while my Fusion was in for recall work. I can see why some people would like the utility of it but coming from a Fusion Hybrid I did not care for it at all. One trait both vehicles share is the is the whine coming from the rear wheel wells. I wish Ford had added some additional soundproofing in that area.

What didn't you like about it?

Going from CMAX to FFH I noticed it was more difficult to get in and out of. The seating position is lower with less head room which effects outside visibility. Some of this has to do with what you are use too. CMAX being shorter it takes up less space in the garage and I can even leave my bike on the back and still close the garage door. My Wife's Explorer barely makes it in the garage. :)
