The one "cut-rate" thing about the Fusion has always been the stalk antenna. I mean, even my dad's Hyundai Elantra has a shark fin, what's the deal with Ford using this cheap looking antenna? I ordered a shark fin from CD3, and installed it myself in less than 20 minutes. What an improvement in appearance! This is probably the only customization I will bother with, maybe I'm biased, but I think the car is perfect in all other respects!

I had not heard of CD3 Performance until reading your post and googled for "CD3 Fusion". They have some nice add ons!

Have you noticed any drop in AM radio reception?  How about FM?  The stick antenna reminds me of my 05 Corolla (shudder).  I live in the sticks and occasionally tune into AM during my commute, and listen to FM most other times.

I alternate between FM and Sirius, and haven't noticed a quality decline in either one. Listening to Denver Broncos football this Sunday while driving through Nebraska enroute to Iowa will give me a chance to evaluate AM.

Are you particularly handy with tools etc? I'm not, but I can follow directions if they're clear. Do you need any special tools or skill?

It's pretty simple.  I used three pieces of painter's tape, about six inches long, and a screwdriver:

1. Unscrew the original antenna.

2. Attach the wire from the shark fin to the antenna base.

3. Put the shark fin over the antenna base and eyeball it to make sure it's centered along the centerline of the car.

4. When the shark fin is centered, carefully place a piece of painter's tape along each side as close to the antenna as you can, taking care not to move it.

5. Determine where you want the shark fin, front to back, and place the third piece of tape across the other two pieces, as close to the front of the shark fin as you can.

6. Remove the double-sided tape from the bottom of the shark fin and carefully position the antenna inside the three pieces of painter's tape.

7. Press down hard on the shark fin, and that's it.

8. Follow the instructions about washing your car.

I cut a piece of thick cardboard with an opening that matched the base of the Shark Fin.  I then positioned the Shark Fin where I wanted it to be. I placed the cardboard over the Shark Fin and taped it to the roof of the car.  The Shark Fin was then removed and the tape protection strip removed.  The Shark Fin was then carefully inserted into the opening in the cardboard and pressed to secure the tape.  Finally the cardboard was removed.
