2016 Fusion: It sounds like an air compressor behind the back seat

Recommended Posts

My 2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid has just started sounding like it has an air compressor running in the trunk (I can hear it over the front motor, when it's running). I've owned it 15 months now and not heard the noise before. My local Ford Service is trying to tell me it's "Normal". If it's "normal" why am I just now hearing it? Any thoughts from the Forum?

Sounds like your battery pack vent. It's normal to hear it, It just depend how loud the sound is. If it's as loud as you say, then I think it is not normal.

Make sure there's nothing blocking the air traps under your backglass.

UPDATE: My local Ford dealer was able replicate the problem with the use of their computer hooked through the OBD port. After sitting with me in my Fusion with the rear fan on computer controlled to high, listening to the compressor like sound, then sitting in a new car and doing the same procedure, producing a nice rushing air sound, they've agreed to replace the part under warranty (currently at 22K miles). The part is on back order and should be delivered on 2 Jan.
