2016 Random Warnings

We purchased a 2016 Fusion Hybrid Titanium about a month ago. Since then, we've had a couple of seemingly random front "Collision" warnings and several odd Cross Traffic warnings when backing up. No faults have been reported. We're at about 1,600 total miles and these faults have occurred 2-3 times.

 

In the case of the front collision warning, we've been driving twice on open suburban roads, no traffic. The red lights flash for a few seconds and that's all. For the rear Cross Traffic warnings, we've been backing up and the warnings have gone off with no cars in sight, let alone anything approaching us from the side.

 

It's particularly noticeable as I also have a 2015 F-150 with the rear Cross Traffic system and have found the system to be extremely reliable. Never noticed any kind of phantom warnings.

 

Took it into the dealer and they indicated there were no faults or codes, therefore there was nothing they could see to "fix." I'm in IT support, and I totally understand transient faults and how hard they are to diagnose or fix ... so no hard feelings ... at this point!!

 

I am curious if anyone knows if there is any kind of either self test or diagnostic test that the dealer can do to further isolate these kinds of issues?

 

Other than that ... we love our hybrid!!

Thanks for the info. Perhaps it's just the nature of the beast?

 

I do see that on the F150 there's a large square sensor for BLIS on the taillight assembly along with the little sensors on the bumper. Perhaps it only uses the larger sensor and that's why it appears to be a bit more reliable.

I've always gotten occasional false CTA alarms in my 2010. It's the nature of the beast. I would hate to get another car without it.

Ford uses the same sensors and systems for all their vehicles. The BLIS sensor is always mounted on the side of the vehicle, on the Fusion it's hidden underneath the fascia. But as with all radar/sonar sensors, they are only around 90% accurate so you're always going to get faults. That's why Ford won't do "autopilot" like some of those other guys...

The same happens with me. And telling you the truth, it sometimes really irritates.

I can mirror what everyone else has said. I got frequent false alarms on the CTA system, it could be a branch blowing in the breeze, even a stray dog crossing the street that activates it pretty regularly. I check the dashboard, find out if it from the right or left side, and then check carefully. But I'd rather have the false alarms than turn it off.

The Collision warnings also happen unnecessarily sometimes, but more than once, it has alerted me to someone cutting me off, much quicker than I would have reacted otherwise.
