2015 - Ford Fusion - HyTi - Subwoofer/Bass cuts off in EV Mode

Folks,

 

I thought I was going crazy but what i am going to explain has witnesses.

 

I have the Sony radio from the factory.

 

I am an audiophile I have a very sensitive ear when it comes to good sound. I have a degree in audio engineering and sat behind a mixing console for some time as well. So up until now I swore up and down that I would notice a drop in bass levels periodically through my drive. To the point I thought I was nuts. This behavior is extremely noticeable when playing bluetooth audio. Not so much in Radio or Satellite. Soo I finally got down to to diagnosing the issue and I have found that when playing a bass track in EV Mode the BASS/Subwoofer cuts out. When ICE is running all is good everything is normalized and bass thumps nicely. I had two of my friends with me to witness this so I am not going crazy.

 

Also, I could have sworn that I saw a thread here that talks about it and what to do to fix it. I like to thump when listening to the radio so I would like to know the answers to the following two questions;

 

1) Why is this happening?

2) What can be done to stop it or where is the link to the thread that talks about it?

 

Any help would be graciously appreciated.

Interesting, I've never noticed this.

I have a friend who works at a dealer and asked. He said there's updated DSP software to fix it. There may be an ACM (audio control module) update also, depending on the build date of the car

 

Print out the SSM (special service message) below and take it to your dealer. It may or may not be covered under warranty.

SSM 45275 - 2014-2016 Fusion Titanium Hybrid And Titanium Energi - Reduced Subwoofer Volumein Electric Vehicle (EV) Mode - Built On Or Before 8/7/2015
Some 2014-2016 Fusion Titanium Hybrid and 2014-2016 Fusion Titanium Energi vehicles built on or before 8/7/2015 equipped with Sony Premium Audio may exhibit a concern of decreased subwoofer performance or decreased subwoofer volume when the gas engine turns off or when the vehicle is in EV mode. To correct the concernupdate the Audio Digital Signal Processing module (DSP) to the latest calibration using IDS version 96.02 or higher. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com. Use applicable 18805D labor ops from Section 11 of the SLTS manual and use causal part 18A849 for reflash only.
