Lurching after hitting bumps

Recommended Posts

I have 72,000 miles on my 2014 FFH, and recently noticed that when I hit a bump at highway speeds (and I live in Massachusetts, so there are BUMPS) the rear end sort of lurches sideways for a second,. It is really unnerving, the car has never had this problem, it feels like the car is going to lose control.

I assume it is a bad shock, but how does one tell? Are they hard to change? I always do my own brakes and rotors, but have never tried to do shocks in my driveway. Is there anything else that could cause this sideways jerking? I have a big trip vacation trip to Colorado coming up at the end of June, and need to get this addressed soon.

Thanks for any help. You guys are great.

In general, shocks are pretty easy. One but on top and one or two on the bottom. I haven't looked into this vehicle yet, though.

Could also be the alignment has gone bad. I'd get that checked first.
