My car is a 2013 SE so it doesn't have Intelligent Access. The key fob is a switchblade style.

One of the fobs has been intermittent lately - I once had to click the trunk button 6 times to get it to respond. The lock/unlock buttons are also kinda wonky.

I've switched to my other fob which has zero issues so I suspect the battery is low in the first fob.

I don't want to pay the dealer to replace the battery so I'd like to do it myself. However, I can't see any way to open the key fob without destroying it. I tried to Google it but all I found was a Youtube video explaining the procedure for Intelligent Access key fobs which are not the same.

Has anyone changed the battery themselves? Any links to a helpful guide? Thanks!

I'm going to grab the manual now.

I just realized I haven't read the manual for... anything I've bought in over 10 years :P A lot of appliances and gadgets these days are absurdly easy to set up.

Just a follow up, I got the key fob open following the instructions on page 45.

I got out my digital multimeter to measure the voltage of the battery and it showed 2.8V, which isn't much drain from the original 3V voltage. That means the battery isn't the reason my key fob was acting up.

After I put the battery back and closed the fob cover, the problem seemed to just go away but I need to test further to be sure.

In the meantime, I hope the other key fob stays in good condition!

Finger prints on the battery surfaces can cause problems.

The battery should be measured under load.  In my experience 2.8 volts open circuit is a battery that is close to being useless.  Do a search for "discharge curve for lithium coin cell".   The voltage is very flat for most of their life and then very quickly drops off.

You're right. I should've known better having studied electrical engineering... had a brain fart at the time. I've replaced the battery and this key is working well.
