Estone5794 Report post Posted September 10, 2015 (edited) I just bought a cpo 2013 Ford Fusion I'm trying into install a switch box to control my dash lights ( I'm a volunteer firefighter) . Previously I had an 03 Accord which I had everything wired to add a fuse into my interior fuse box. So I'm reinstalling everything and idk if it's me or it's a different type of add a fuse cause it doesn't fit and I'm pretty much stuck. Can anyone lead me toward an Add of Fuse that is used on a Ford Fusion . I'm avoiding going thru the firewall at all costs and cigarette plugs . I'm trying to use the interior fuse box.Can someone help me out. Which type of add a fuse to use cause there are atm atl and etc. *** the add a fuse from my previous car is to big for the current fuse in the 13 Ford Fusion*** Thanks Edited September 10, 2015 by Estone5794
murphy Report post Posted September 10, 2015 It's been two years since I looked at the extremely difficult to access fuse panel but my recollection is that the car uses micro3 3 terminal fuses and micro2 2 terminal fuses. Here is one possibility. http://www.amazon.com/Lumision-SHIPPING-ADD-A-CIRCUIT-FUSE-TAP-TERMINAL/dp/B00OZFNJI6 I have not used this item, just did a search for micro2 fuse tap. There is a white plastic fuse puller stored in the upper left area of the fuse block. I recommend that you stuff a towel behind the carpeting before removing anything from the fuse block. If you drop the puller or a fuse it will end up behind the carpet. It is not easy to retrieve anything from behind the carpet. 2 GrySql and hybridbear reacted to this
GrySql Report post Posted September 11, 2015 (edited) If you look at the 2013 Owner's Manual on pages 246, 247 & 248 it shows the type of fuse, the location and Amp rating of all the unused fuse locations in the Passenger Compartment Fuse Panel. Each unused (spare) Fuse/Relay Number location has a certain Amp load assigned to it in the OM chart. I am assuming that it would not be a good idea to use 20A in a 5A fuse location. I think #38 is the only spare 30A location. Murphy, does that make sense? Edited September 11, 2015 by GrySql 1 hybridbear reacted to this
murphy Report post Posted September 11, 2015 Yes. They would not wire all of the fuse locations with the wire size required to support 30 amps. I would say the specified fuse size is the maximum for that position. Going to a lower value for the tapped fuse would not be a problem. It also appears that for the micro3 fuses only one side is used. I didn't do an exhaustive check but this means that if a three terminal fuse blows the fuse could be pulled, flipped over and reinserted to get a good fuse. Not that anyone is likely to do that on the road given how difficult it is to get to the fuse panel. 2 hybridbear and GrySql reacted to this
