RCM Recall - Parts Available - What's Involved?

Recommended Posts

Found out that my dealership now has a large quantity of the RCMs in stock to do the recalls.

So I scheduled that and new tires for a full day of sercice.

What is involved in that replacement of the RCM? He says just a quick reprogramming

(what the parts guy told me), but I know its more involved taking apart half the car I am

sure.

Also getting a new set of tires, anybody tried these yet? Have the SUV version

(LX20 CrossContact) on my wife's Santa Fe and they have been great and very quiet!

The center console has to come out because the RCM is below the console. The Recall allows 1.1 hours for this.

Several of us have those tires and love them.

This is where the RCM sits, directly under the center floor console, between the front seats.

The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) has to be depowered/repowered, a Programmable Module Installation (PMI) has to be done and the ABS system re-initialized.

This is for 14S21 right? Dealers in Vancouver told me that parts are available for MKZs but not Fusions. The ETA for 15S16 (door latches) is December :( Come on Ford, get those parts out faster!

How did it go when you had this work done?

No issues at all with this, could barely tell anything was done in my car.

I did clear out my stuff from center console, hardly anything was reset.

Would you rather have it done right or done fast?????

Done right, of course, but I am a little paranoid about driving a car that could potentially have a short in the airbag control module or potentially have a locked door swing wide open :( Given that parts have already been available to fix new cars before they're sold to customers, I hoped that Ford would increase production of these parts to help out people who have already bought their cars.

Well, the car is almost 3 years old and no problems so far... I guess I should calm down, haha.

I certainly don't like the idea of taking a long trip across some of the hot deserts like we often do with the nagging thought that the RCM will fail at the worst possible place.

This is the spot I seem to have the most problems:

The door flying open can be an annoyance as well, that might let the Vulture in the car.... ;)

I just got an e-mail from the dealer that parts are now available. I'm going to wait until parts are available for all recalls so that they can all be done in one trip...
