Plus 1 on that, love those. We live close to a couple small airports and have the pleasure of hearing them fairly often, I always try to see what type aircraft they are.

Had a DC-3 fly low level over the house last week, darned near got whiplash looking up so fast...

I agree completely. A friend bought, restored (over a LONG time), and recently sold a Douglas A-26 Invader. It had dual controls but I didn't get to fly in it, because he needed a more experienced A-26 pitlot to fly with him for insurance purposes so there was never room for me. I took the photos.

Every so often a T-6 or SNJ, cant tell its too high to see the marking, though same darned plane, flies around here, can always tell between it and the bipes, the wright 1800 has a much lower slower rumble than the radial in the bipes. During Oshkosh there are flights that come near my house, so every so often I catch a big radial or even better a pair or more of merlins. Haven't seen FIFI yet but have seen a couple B-25's.

I am not a pilot but got a ride up front in a SNJ once with the IP behind me, I was just there for the fun of it. He taught me to fly some loops, rolls and stuff, pulled 4G's and almost filled up my barf bag. Even so, it was a great experience.

 

With all the pilots on this Forum I can imagine there are plenty of stories.
