Challenged by the Wife

Recommended Posts

In at least the 2010-12s, you can make the ICE run to fully charge the HVB by pushing down on the accelerator peddle about 1/3 while the car is in "P" and holding it there a few minutes until the HVB is full. Turn the car off, then on again ( new trip ) and drive home. All's fair in Love and War.

heheh I got 35 coming home the past few days, so you sure BEAT me! :) Driving into a 16-25 mph head wind really hurts the MPG. Same trip without these winds can get 45. Huge difference, not to mention the car being knocked around by the gusts.

Headwinds cost about 3 mpg for 10 mph and vice versa. Just moderate to heavy traffic gives you a 5 - 10 mph tailwind without the need for drafting.

From the earliest days of hybrid forums, the mostly male posters have lamented the fact that after their spouse drove a few days, it took them a week or more to get the mpg back up to normal. Now most of us have OCD about the mileage or we wouldn't be here in the first place. The fact is most women don't care about it as it's low on their list of important things. That's unlikely to change. My apologies to the OCD women here for whom this is reversed.

My wife has never had an accident but she drives more aggressively than I and is on and off the gas unconsciously all the time. Her results are typically 5 mpg worse than mine. She loves the car.
